When Abby asked me if I wanted to do an in-home session the day they closed on their first home, I said YES. I did clarify though: “You mean before you move in? When the house is empty?” I knew that doing the session with the house empty would turn out great (see below), but I was bummed about not getting to photograph Abby’s amazing decorating skills. She is an absolute gem when it comes to decor, and I can’t wait to take another trip up to visit and see what she’s done with the place!

Abby + Colin were the first friends we met in college—they were also high school sweethearts, and we hit it off quickly! We loved hanging out with them on snow days, bachelor nights, and at the local Mexican restaurant. (Yassss—college was so fun!) Originally from Rock Hill, SC, they moved to Columbia after graduation, which was great, because that meant they were closer to us and the fun didn’t have to end!

They knew though that they eventually wanted to plant roots in North Carolina instead of South Carolina, and everything just fell together perfectly to make that happen for them. So here they are, buying their very first home together in Hickory, North Carolina, and I was lucky enough to be able to document the house on the day they closed.

Enjoy my favorites from their session and be sure to wish them the best on this new adventure! We’re going to miss them being so close, but the distance won’t keep us apart forever. We’re already working on planning a camping trip once the weather gets cooler! <3

My passion is in documenting the lives of our families well (mine and yours), and teaching you how to do it too. Follow along as I share photography tips, inspiration, and beautiful portraits.
