A few months back I photographed portraits for a fairly large family (around 18 people). Nicole, who is a sweet friend who owns her own business (check her out), saw the photos and thought I might be up for the challenge of doing family photos for her large family. 27 people is definitely the most I’ve ever photographed. I’ve done large group photos at weddings where all the guests jump in, but that doesn’t count; Doing formal family photos for such a large number of people is different from 40 people trying to jump in a photo at a wedding.

I was totally up for the challenge though, and every single family was so great. We did mini sessions for each family, and then got everyone together at the end for the big group photo. Trying to get the attention of 7 kids under 10 is no easy task, but after a lot of yelling silly noises, directing them to all say “cheeseburger” (which they thought was hilarious), and even falling off of a large bar stool, I managed to make it happen!

Big families are just the BEST, and photographing one was just as awesome as being part of one. Enjoy my favorites from their session!

These are the crazy siblings that make up this huge family.

And here’s the mama!! <3
