I’m warning you in advance: this Columbia, SC home birth is the longest blog post I’ve ever created. I’m just in love with this day and how beautiful these images are. I tried to stick to my favorite photos (there are a lot) and wanted to really show the ebb and flow of labor: a few seconds of relaxation before the contractions come again…until the end comes and it’s just an amazing labor of love (and pain) until the sweet, tiny human is born into the world. I also love the transition from night to day reflected in the images. You’ll see darkness through the windows in the beginning and light peeking in towards the end. (I arrived around 4am and was there for 8 hours.)
I don’t want to write too much because I really think the images speak to how amazing this birth was—Caroline was so, so, so strong (just incredible, honestly). Peter was so supportive. Columbia Midwifery was so knowledgeable.
I’m grateful I got to be a fly on the wall. Grateful to experience the true magic of childbirth from behind a camera.
Welcome to the world, Jack Edward. <3
