When it comes to wedding planning, sending out invitations and save-the-dates is a beast in and of itself. Once you’ve conquered your guest list, which takes a village, you’ve got to figure out how to invite everyone on it to your wedding. A lot of people are moving toward online e-vites, but that can sometimes feel impersonal, and won’t ever take the place of a beautiful paper invitation.

Designing and ordering invitations brought some of the toughest challenges for me throughout my whole wedding-planning process. (I’m so picky!) I ended up designing my own invitations, ordering paper and envelopes from different places, and even had things printed at multiple printers along the way. It was a stressful mess that was anything but easy, and I don’t want you to struggle through making your own invitations like I did.

My number one recommendation, if you can afford it, is to hire an invitation designer to do EVERYTHING for you: custom calligraphy of your names, totally unique design, envelope liners, and then stuffing and stamping every one of those bad boys and sending them out for you. Breathe deep and know that it is all being taken care of.

This isn’t a perfect world though, and paying for custom invitations will be well into the $1,000s. But thankfully, you don’t HAVE to pay thousands of dollars for an easy-to-create, custom set of invitations for your wedding.

There are a bunch of different invitation companies out there, but today I want to talk to you specifically about Basic Invite: custom wedding stationery that is easy, quick, and affordable—all the things a bride needs when wedding planning!

My top 3 favorite things about Basic Invite are:

1. They have so many options!

When designing your invitations, you’re going to want something really unique to you and the style of your wedding. Basic Invite has SO many invitation designs + over 200 full invitation sets (save the dates, invites, enclosure cards, menus, programs, thank you cards, etc.). The best part? No one has as many color options as they do. They have over 180 options to choose from, so even your specific blush pink wedding color is probably available! They also have one of the biggest color selections of envelopes thsn any other invitation company. While most companies give you the option of white, ivory, and kraft envelopes, Basic Invite has all of these, plus 35+ more color options. Custom invitations have never been easier to create than they are today—design your invite right now, seriously, right now if you want to, and see a preview with your names and wedding date instantly.

2. Samples before you buy

All of that sounds good and dandy, but what if I design my invitations online, buy 100 of them, and get them in and HATE the quality, or the colors I chose, or the image I used on them? This has always been my number one hesitation with designing and ordering paper goods online…and GUESS WHAT…fear. no. more. My FAVORITE thing about Basic Invite is that you can not only buy their sample pack to test out their different invitation suites, but you can get an exact sample of the invitation you want to order before you buy them all! How cool is that? They’ll send you your exact design, your names, your date, your colors, everything—that way you can hold it in your hand, feel the quality, see the details—all before placing your full order. I’m sold. (Seriously…they sell other paper products too, not just for weddings, and I will definitely be trying out some samples from them this year for my Christmas cards!)

3. Peel and Seal envelopes

Lastly, and another HUGE plus, is that almost all of their invitations and sets come with free peel and seal envelopes. *mic drop* Until you’ve stayed up until 3am stuffing and gluing (yes, gluing) envelopes closed, you won’t understand how big of a deal this is. (And I’ve done it on multiple, multiple occasions.) First of all, I don’t ever say no to free envelopes, but it’s almost impossible to pass up the option for FREE peel and seal. Having this option is such a time-saver!

I decided to play around a little bit with a design on their website to see what it’s like, and it really is so cool and custom! There are SO many colors to choose from, and you can pick any combinations you want. Here are 4 combinations of colors I came up with for the same invite. Which one do you like better?! I love the grey/blue/cream one. If I was getting married again, those would absolutely be my colors.

My biggest tip for using a company like Basic Invite for your invitations is to grab a few friends to help you out. Ask them what they think about your designs if you need help choosing, and then recruit them to help you stuff and stamp them when they come in! With a few friends helping, you can get it done in no time, and then you can spend the rest of your night watching the Bachelor and sipping on some bubbly!
